In short: Duty Mitra records your location only at the moment you mark a duty (Start Duty, Reached or Stand Down). It is never tracked in the background, and never at any other time. Your other details — name, rank, posting and phone number — come from the Kolkata Police's own personnel records, not from you signing up.

1 Introduction

Duty Mitra is a mobile application provided for personnel of the Kolkata Police to view their duty assignments and record their attendance. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and how it is protected.

Duty Mitra can be installed by anyone from the app store, but signing in requires a mobile number already registered in the Kolkata Police's own personnel records — there is no public self-registration, and the app cannot be used without an authorised account.

2 Information we collect

Identity and posting information — your name, phone number, rank, service number and posting, as maintained in the Kolkata Police's personnel records. You do not enter this yourself; it is provided by the department.
Duty and attendance records — the duties you are assigned, and the times you mark Start Duty, Reached and Stand Down.
Location, only at the moment you mark a duty — when you tap Start Duty, Mark Reached or Stand Down, the app records your device's location at that instant, as part of the attendance record. Duty Mitra does not track your location at any other time, and never runs location tracking in the background.
Basic technical information — details such as app version and general error logs, needed to keep the service running reliably.

3 How we use this information

To show you your duty assignments and let you record your attendance.
To let colleagues and supervisors confirm who is on a duty, and where.
To keep the department's duty and attendance records accurate.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell it to anyone.

4 Who can see this information

Your duty and attendance information is visible to the officers responsible for the duty you are on — such as your Incharge — and to nodal officers within the department responsible for that area of duty, for as long as is needed to run the duty.
Your phone number is used to sign you in, and is only shared with another officer where the app lets them call you as part of a duty you are both on.
Duty Mitra does not share your information with any organisation outside the Kolkata Police, except where required by law.

5 How long we keep this information

Duty and attendance records are retained by the department as part of the official record of policing operations. The location captured at the moment you mark a duty is kept for a limited period as evidence of attendance and then deleted; the fact that a duty was marked, and when, remains part of the permanent duty record.

6 Security

Signing in uses a one-time code sent to your registered phone number — there is no password to remember or to be stolen. Information is transmitted securely, and access to duty and attendance records is restricted to authorised department systems and personnel.

7 Your rights

Duty Mitra reflects the Kolkata Police's own personnel records. If any of your details — name, rank, posting or phone number — are incorrect, contact your administrative office to have your official record corrected. For any question or concern about the app itself, contact us using the details below.

8 Children's privacy

Duty Mitra is a duty-management tool for serving Kolkata Police personnel and is not directed at, or intended for use by, children.

9 Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
